NMDC Board Sees Tenure End for Independent Director; Board Composition Updated

NMDC Limited has announced a change in its board composition, noting that the tenure of Non-Official Independent Director Sanjay Tandon has come to an end as of 14 April 2026. The development follows the Ministry of Steel’s earlier order under which Tandon was appointed for a year from 15 April 2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. With that term concluded, NMDC has shared an updated roster of its directors as part of its governance update.

The current NMDC board blends functional leadership with government oversight and independent voices. The Functional Directors include Amitava Mukherjee as Chairman & Managing Director, Vinay Kumar (Director Technical & Commercial, Additional Charge), Joydeep Dasgupta (Director Production), Krishna Kumar Thakur (Director Personnel), and Anurag Kapil (Director Finance). Government-nominee directors on the board are Ashish Chatterjee (Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Steel) and Abhijit Narendra (Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel). Serving as Non-Official Independent Directors are Bharat Baburao Patil, Mahendra Singh Rao, and Achal Kumar Sinha.

Industry observers view such board refreshment as a reminder of NMDC’s ongoing governance cadence—balancing technical execution with policy oversight and independent accountability. While the departure of a long-standing independent director marks a milestone, the board remains equipped with a mix of seasoned executives, government nominees, and independent voices to steer NMDC’s strategic course in a dynamic steel landscape. The company’s leadership cadres will continue to align on core priorities, corporate strategy, and governance standards as NMDC charts its next chapter.
