Kotak Mahindra Bank elevates Anup Kumar Saha to MD & CEO; Ashu Suyash reappointed Independent Director

Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited unveiled a leadership reshuffle that blends an internal elevation with a steady governance appointment. The board has appointed Anup Kumar Saha as the bank’s Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer for a three-year term, with effect from January 1, 2027, subject to the members’ approval. The move, which aligns with RBI’s earlier confirmation, signals a continuation of the bank’s strategic leadership as it pursues growth across its Retail, Government Business, Data Analytics and Marketing functions.

Anup Kumar Saha is currently a Whole-time Director (Executive Director) at Kotak, having joined the bank in January 2026. Since March 2026, he has been overseeing the Retail Bank, Government Business, Data Analytics and Marketing functions. His prior career spans more than three decades in financial services, including senior roles at Bajaj Finance Limited and a long tenure at ICICI Bank, where he led several consumer and analytics initiatives. He holds a B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and an MBA from IIM Lucknow, underscoring a blend of engineering rigor and strategic management.

In a separate governance decision, the bank approved the re-appointment of Ashu Suyash as an Independent Director for a second consecutive term of three years, from January 24, 2027 to January 23, 2030, again subject to member approval. Suyash brings a distinguished profile as a governance-focused leader with a track record across banking, investment management and analytics. She has served as founder of Colossa Ventures LLP and, prior to that, led CRISIL as CEO, while also holding pivotal roles with L&T Investment Management and Fidelity’s Indian mutual fund business. Her broader contributions extend to advisory boards and industry governance, reflecting Kotak’s emphasis on diverse and experienced oversight at the board level.

Taken together, the announcements underscore Kotak’s commitment to leadership depth and governance as it steers toward its strategic horizon. While Anup Kumar Saha’s appointment marks a formal transition to the bank’s top executive, Ashu Suyash’s reappointment reinforces continuity in independent oversight, a combination that the leadership and investors will be watching closely as the three-year terms unfold.
