JSW Steel Limited has named Dev Bajpai as an Additional Director in the category of Non-Executive Independent Director, with effect from July 2, 2026. The move, recommended by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and approved by the board, awaits shareholders’ nod for a five-year term ending July 1, 2031. Bajpai’s appointment is not subject to retirement by rotation during the term.
Dev Bajpai, aged 60, brings more than three decades of experience across the corporate landscape, including automobile and auto components, FMCG, hospitality, and private equity. He spent a notable portion of his career at Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), where he was a member of the Management Committee since May 2010 and later served as Executive Director, Legal & Corporate Affairs on HUL’s Board until his early retirement on December 31, 2024. He also served as Non-Executive Chairman of Unilever Nepal Limited and contributed to HUL’s governance framework before transitioning to advisory roles. He is currently an Advisor to HUL.
Bajpai is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and holds a law degree from the University of Delhi. He completed an Executive Program for Corporate Counsels at Harvard Law School. While trained as a lawyer, his work has centered on business strategy, markets, policy, and corporate governance, with a track record of engaging with industry bodies and governance reforms. His appointment signals JSW Steel’s intent to augment governance and strategic counsel at the board level as it navigates a dynamic market environment.
