Universal Cables Limited is reshaping its finance leadership, naming Nishant Premkuar Saigal as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Whole Time Key Managerial Personnel, with effect from 21 October 2026, while the current CFO, Gopal Agarwal, will step down at the close of business on 30 September 2026. The move, approved by the board, underscores the company’s prepared handover as it pursues a multi-year growth trajectory that blends aggressive capacity expansion with strategic partnerships.
Saigal arrives at Universal Cables from Walchandnagar Industries Limited, where he serves as CFO. A Chartered Accountant with over 25 years of experience in corporate finance, taxation, treasury, and ERP systems, Saigal has led finance functions across heavy engineering, infrastructure, mining, and manufacturing sectors. His resume also highlights a stint as Whole-time Director and CFO of Chennai Water Desalination Limited. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is a qualified CA, with CFA Level I/DBF credentials, positioning him to steer the company through its upcoming capex cycle and international growth initiatives.
The leadership transition comes as Universal Cables advances a broad capex and expansion program, including capacity augmentation for Medium Voltage and High Voltage cables and a major optical fibre venture in collaboration with its joint venture partners. The board’s decisions on financing and execution of these projects reflect a deliberate push to deepen manufacturing capabilities and expand export opportunities, reinforcing the MP Birla Group’s long-term growth agenda in power solutions.
Industry observers will be watching how Saigal navigates the finance function amid a period of heavy investment and rapid expansion, while Agarwal’s departure marks the end of a chapter for the company’s financial leadership. As Universal Cables positions itself for higher output and broader markets, the effectiveness of this executive transition will be a key signal of the company’s strategic resilience and execution capability.
