RITES Limited appoints Sandeepa Malhotra as Independent Director to the Board

RITES Limited has announced the appointment of an Independent Director to its board, signaling a further strengthening of its governance framework. The Ministry of Railways, by letter dated 06 October 2026, has informed that the Hon’ble President of India has approved the appointment of Sandeepa Malhotra as a Non-Official Director for a three-year term with immediate effect, or until further orders. The move places a seasoned academician on the board at a time when RITES is charting a new phase of growth and strategic oversight.

Sandeepa Malhotra brings a rich academic mantle to the board, with 28 years of teaching and academic leadership in MBA and Business Economics. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Business Economics, and has taught at institutions such as Jiwaji University, IITTM, and IGNOU. Her scholarly footprint includes more than 38 research papers and a book on Quality Management, reflecting a strong orientation toward curriculum development, research, student placement, and professional mentoring. Her long association with the Indian Economic Association—where she has served in executive roles—underlines a capacity to engage with policy-relevant economic discourse, a valuable lens for governance oversight at RITES.

The company notes that Malhotra is not related to any other director on the board, a detail underscoring the independence of the appointment. The addition of an Independent Director is framed as part of RITES’s broader effort to enhance board balance, strengthen governance, and bring a rigorous academic and analytical perspective to strategic discussions. While the formal steps to complete statutory requirements are underway, the board welcomed the new director as it navigates complex infrastructure programs and a rapidly evolving transportation landscape in India.
