Fino Payments Bank Extends Interim CEO Ketan Merchant’s Tenure by Up to Three Months

Fino Payments Bank Limited has extended the tenure of its Interim Chief Executive Officer, Ketan Merchant, for up to three months starting August 27, 2026, subject to RBI approval. The board approved the extension at its meeting on August 24, 2026, with Merchant continuing in the role of Interim CEO and remaining as both Key Managerial Personnel and Senior Managerial Personnel of the bank. The move underscores leadership continuity as the bank pursues its growth and strategic agenda.

Merchant brings more than 27 years of banking experience to Fino, with a track record spanning finance and balance-sheet management. Since joining the bank in 2018, he has been a central figure in shaping the bank’s strategy and sustainable growth framework. His career prior to Fino includes stints at HSBC, Standard Chartered, and Barclays Group across retail banking, with a notable emphasis on accelerating growth-oriented initiatives. Under his leadership, Fino has pursued the three-pronged DDD (Data, Distribution and Digital) framework as part of the Fino 2.0 vision and guided the bank through its listing in 2021.

As the bank navigates an evolving credit and digital landscape, the extension signals a continued emphasis on strategic execution and stability at the top. Merchant’s ongoing stewardship will likely be closely watched by investors and customers alike as Fino balances growth with governance, while RBI’s final clearance remains a key factor in the immediate-term trajectory.
