In a strategic shuffle aimed at bolstering its cyber defences, Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited has named Rishi Awasthi as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and a Senior Management Personnel, with effect from October 1, 2026. He will succeed Basil Dange, who has tendered his resignation for personal reasons, effective at the close of business on September 25, 2026.
Awasthi arrives at the helm of the company’s information security function with a track record that spans more than 14 years across BFSI, technology, telecom and consulting. He has been with Aditya Birla Capital Limited since May 2023 as Lead – Privacy and IS Audit, driving enterprise-wide cybersecurity governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and data privacy. His career path includes leadership roles at RSM India, Willis Towers Watson, Deloitte India and Tata Consultancy Services. He holds a B.Tech in Computer Science, an MBA in IT Business Management, and has completed the General Management Programme at ISB, complemented by certifications such as CISA, CISM, CRISC, CDPSE and Associate C|CISO.
The appointment signals ABSL AMC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening cyber risk oversight as it navigates a data-driven landscape in the mutual fund and asset-management arena. Basil Dange’s departure marks the end of a tenure, while Rishi Awasthi’s onboarding brings a fresh, governance-focused perspective to safeguard clients’ information and the firm’s digital ecosystems. As the firm continues its digital and data-centric expansion, the new CISO is expected to anchor robust security practices across technology and operations, reinforcing trust at a time when cyber resilience is a top boardroom priority.
