Emcure Pharmaceuticals Limited is reshaping its board, as Berjis Desai signals the end of his chairmanship. Desai, a non-executive, non-independent director, has expressed unwillingness to seek re-appointment after declaring he would join the National Commission for Minorities in New Delhi. Accordingly, he will cease to hold office as Chairman and Director at the conclusion of the company’s forthcoming AGM, triggering a transition moment for the Pune-based pharma group.
Into the governance mix comes Raghu Kumar, named as an Additional Director (Non-Executive and Independent) with effect from August 6, 2026 and as an Independent Director for a first three-year term, subject to member approval. Kumar is described as not debarred from serving as a director and is not related to any of Emcure’s directors or KMPs. His four-decade track record spans leadership roles across Allergan, Novartis and Bayer, and broad experience in pharma, healthcare and consumer products.
At the same time, Satish Mehta, Emcure’s Managing Director and CEO, will take on the role of Chairman of the Company from the close of the ensuing AGM, in light of Desai’s retirement. Mehta has been the architect of Emcure’s growth strategy since founding the company in 1981, steering business transformation, strategic expansion and talent development. He also currently serves as Chairman and Independent Director of Emcutix Biopharmaceuticals Limited, Emcure’s wholly owned subsidiary.
These moves set the stage for a new governance chapter at Emcure, with a refreshed board profile and a continuity-focused executive leadership. The changes—subject to member approval at the AGM—underscore the company’s intent to balance experienced oversight with continuity in leadership as it pursues its growth ambitions across more than 70 countries.
