Vodafone Idea names Gopika Pant as Independent Woman Director

Vodafone Idea Limited has announced the appointment of Gopika Pant as an Independent Woman Director on its board, effective 17 September 2026, for a five-year term subject to member approval. The move adds an independent voice to the company’s governance framework as it charts its strategic course in a dynamic telecom landscape.

Pant, 66, brings more than four decades of legal practice and a rare dual qualification in India and the United States. Her academic pedigree includes a BA (Hons) from St. Stephen’s College (1982), an LLB from Delhi University (1985), and an LL.M. from Columbia University (1986), after which she was admitted to the New York Bar and practiced in New York City (1986–1990) before returning to India. She rose to partner at a leading Indian law firm and went on to establish Indian Law Partners (ILP) in 1999.

Her extensive practice spans corporate and commercial law, cross-border transactions, private equity investments and exits, information technology, banking and finance, NBFCs, corporate restructurings, foreign investments, labour and employment, and intellectual property. Her leadership in the legal field has earned her recognition on the Forbes India Legal Powerlist in 2020 and 2021 as one of the top managing partners in India, and a decade-long presence on the India Business Law Journal’s A-list of India’s top 100 lawyers.

The appointment reflects Vodafone Idea’s emphasis on strengthened governance and independent oversight as it advances its strategic agenda. The board also approved a Postal Ballot Notice to seek member approval for the appointment of Ms. Pant alongside Mr. Anil Berera as Independent Directors, underscoring the company’s commitment to diverse and experienced governance at the highest level.
