UCO Bank appoints Mohamed Ashraf J S as Director on Board, replacing Hari Har Mishra

UCO Bank has announced a change in its boardroom lineup, signaling a continuation of government-led governance in the lender’s upper echelons. The Central Government has nominated Mohamed Ashraf J S as Director on the Bank’s Board, taking over from Hari Har Mishra with immediate effect and until further orders. The shift underscores how governance structures in state-backed banks are routinely refreshed through the government’s nod, aligning leadership with policy direction and public accountability.

Mohamed Ashraf J S brings current experience as a Deputy Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services. In confirming the appointment, UCO Bank noted that he is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any SEBI or other authority, reinforcing a clean slate for director-level oversight on the bank’s strategic trajectory.

Hari Har Mishra ceases to be a Director on the Bank’s Board effective 23 October 2026, following the nomination of the new director. While leadership transitions at this level are routine, they often reverberate through the bank’s governance dynamics, signaling a continued emphasis on seasoned public-sector stewardship in UCO Bank’s governance framework.

Together, the changes reflect a governance model where government-credentialed officers contribute to strategic governance, risk oversight, and policy-aligned decision-making at one of India’s legacy public-sector banks. As UCO Bank advances its agenda in a challenging financial environment, the new director’s experience in financial services is likely to influence boardroom dialogue on capital, containment of risk, and long-term growth.
