Sundaram Finance Sees Chairman Step Down; Independent Director to Lead Board

Sundaram Finance Limited announced a leadership transition at the top of its board. The company said that S. Viji has relinquished his office as Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Board, with effect from the close of the board meeting held on November 4, 2026, citing age and other personal considerations. Viji, who has served on the board for four decades and chaired it for 21 years, leaves behind a long arc of involvement with the lender.

In the wake of this departure, the board elected R. Venkatraman, an Independent Director, to serve as Chairman of the Board. The resolution to appoint Venkatraman was taken at the same board meeting, underscoring a transition that emphasizes independent leadership at the helm. The company also provided a note with the timing of the meeting, which commenced at 10:00 A.M. and concluded at 02:20 P.M.

Viji’s letter to the board conveyed gratitude for the privilege of serving the company over the years and extended best wishes for its continued prosperity. Venkatraman’s ascension signals a new chapter for Sundaram Finance as it continues to navigate its strategic agenda under strengthened independent governance at the chair position.
