RVNL Reappoints Independent Director Rakesh Bhalla to Board

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has refreshed its governance slate on the board, naming an Independent Director for a fresh term. The company announced that Rakesh Bhalla has been re-appointed as an Additional Director designated as Independent Director, effective 25 August 2026, for a three-year term beginning from the date of appointment. This follows his initial appointment as an Additional Director on 13 August 2026, with office to be held until the next Annual General Meeting.

The appointment was formalized by the Board of Directors through a resolution by circulation on 27 August 2026, aligning with the company’s ongoing emphasis on board independence and oversight in its rail infrastructure mandate. The accompanying Annexure A notes that Bhalla is not related to any director of the company, underscoring the governance intent behind his re-appointment.

This move arrives as RVNL continues to balance strategic execution in rail development with strengthened board oversight. An Independent Director role typically supports objective governance and performance monitoring, which is particularly pivotal for a government-backed entity operating in the complex landscape of public sector rail projects. With a three-year term beginning 25 August 2026, Bhalla will contribute to steering discussions and safeguarding board balance through 2029, subject to any regulatory or statutory provisions at the time of renewal or appointment.
