J&K Bank taps Rakesh Magotra as Chief Compliance Officer and Group Compliance Officer, signaling governance push

The Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited has appointed Rakesh Magotra as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and Group Compliance Officer (GCO), effective July 4, 2026, to succeed Peer Masood Ahmad. The move signals the bank’s intent to sharpen its compliance and governance framework at a time when robust oversight remains a priority for financial institutions operating in a dynamic regulatory landscape.

Magotra brings more than three decades of experience across retail banking, credit, strategy, operations, governance and business transformation. Since joining JKB as a Probationary Officer in 1996, he has held several leadership roles, including Zonal Head for the Delhi Zone, Advisor to the Chairman, and Head of Financial Inclusion, as well as Head of Supervision & Control. In his recent tenure as General Manager & Head of Retail Banking Division, he led Retail Assets, Agriculture, MSME, Government Sponsored Schemes and Liability Management. An alumnus of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jaipur, and Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Amritsar, where he earned the Director’s Medal, Magotra is also pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics at IIM Jammu.

The appointment underlines JKB’s commitment to strengthening its governance standards and risk management architecture. With a three-year term, Magotra’s leadership is positioned to shepherd ongoing initiatives in compliance culture, regulatory alignment and institutional governance, reinforcing the bank’s focus on sustainable and responsible growth. The transition also marks a continuity of internal leadership, given Magotra’s extensive tenure and deep familiarity with the bank’s operations, markets and strategic priorities.
