HMT Limited appoints Government Nominee Director to Board as Nigar Fatima Husain replaces Asit Gopal

HMT Limited has announced a leadership move on its board, signaling continued alignment with government policy in India’s strategic manufacturing landscape. The company has appointed Ms. Nigar Fatima Husain as Government Nominee Director on the Board, effective 27 April 2026, to succeed Asit Gopal. The appointment comes with immediate effect and will continue until further orders.

Ms. Husain is an Indian Defence Estates Service officer from the 1996 batch. She is presently posted as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Her academic credentials include a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Zoology from Calcutta University, an LL.B. from Delhi University, and a postgraduate degree in Sociology from Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya. Her diverse career spans leadership roles across cantonments and central government departments, including roles in the Defence Estates wing and stints as Director in various ministries. Notably, she has served as CEO of cantonment boards such as Roorkee, Jhansi, Deolali and Mhow, and has experience in vigilance and land matters related to Defence Estates, as well as roles in the School Education and Literacy sector and in Minority Affairs.

HMT notes that Ms. Husain is not debarred from holding the office of Director under SEBI orders or similar authorities. The move reflects a governance approach that brings cross-ministerial oversight to the company’s board, particularly with the government acting as a key stakeholder in public-sector enterprise strategy. On the outgoing side, Shri Asit Gopal, SS&FA, steps aside as the Government Nominee Director, with the new appointment filling the seat on the Board going forward.
