HAL names DRDO veteran Anindya Biswas as government-nominee director, replacing K Rajalakshmi Menon

In a move that underscores HAL’s ongoing governance alignment with India’s defence ecosystem, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited disclosed that its board has approved the appointment of Anindya Biswas, DS & DG (Aero) at DRDO, as a Part-time Official Director (Government Nominee Director) of the company, effective 7 October 2026. He will join in place of K Rajalakshmi Menon, with the appointment continuing until further orders and pending shareholder approval at the General Meeting.

Anindya Biswas comes with a storied DRDO career dating back to 1992, recognized for steering indigenous design and development of avionics subsystems integral to national missiles and related systems. His work spans glide bombs, air-defence missiles, anti-ship and long-range surface-to-surface systems, and the development of disruptive technologies and agile work cultures that connect research, academia, startups, and in-house engineering.

The outgoing director, K Rajalakshmi Menon, who served as a Non-Executive Director (Government Nominee Director), ceased to hold office on 7 October 2026 after a tenure that began in September 2024. The resignation is described as a nomination withdrawal by the Ministry of Defence, reflecting the MoD’s ongoing role in shaping HAL’s governance and leadership slate.

HAL’s leadership cadence continues to reflect a strategic bridge between the defence research establishment and the production giant. Biswas’s appointment—backed by MoD oversight and HAL board endorsement—signals an intent to further align HAL’s aviation and missile-related programmes with DRDO’s R&D trajectory, aiming to accelerate indigenous capabilities across India’s defence ecosystem.
