GAIL appoints Banwari Lal as Independent Director to bolster board governance

GAIL (India) Limited has announced the appointment of Banwari Lal as an Independent Director, strengthening the board’s independence and governance credentials. The move signals the company’s ongoing emphasis on robust oversight as it navigates a complex energy and infrastructure landscape.

Banwari Lal holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy and has also earned an LL.B., bringing more than 33 years of professional experience to the board. His career spans business taxation, general administration and vigilance, and he has spent more than a decade at the level of Joint Secretary and above, contributing substantial administrative and domain expertise.

The company notes that Banwari Lal has no inter-se relationship with other directors and that he is not debarred from holding the office of director by SEBI, MCA or any statutory authority. His appointment aligns with governance practices designed to bring independent perspective and broad public-sector administration experience to the leadership table.

Together with the rest of the board, Lal’s diverse background is expected to support strategic oversight, risk management and stakeholder stewardship as GAIL continues to pursue its mandate in a dynamic market.
