Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited has announced a leadership change in its senior management. Rajesh Kumar Gupta has been appointed as Senior Management Personnel and will assume charge as Head of Exploration, effective 14 October 2026, in place of S K Gupta who has been released from the HoD(Exploration) post. The move reflects an internal transition within CMPDI’s leadership cadre as the institute continues to sharpen its focus on exploration and mining design.
Gupta is a mining engineering graduate with about 29 years of experience spanning opencast and underground mining operations across Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). He recently joined CMPDI in October 2026, ahead of taking on the HoD role, underscoring CMPDI’s emphasis on deep technical expertise within its senior management.
By promoting Gupta internally to head the exploration function, CMPDI signals a continuity strategy rooted in familiarity with the company’s extensive project portfolio and its twin mandate of planning and design. The leadership change is likely to influence how CMPDI steers its exploration agenda, project execution, and overall mine planning, as it positions itself to advance its technical capabilities in a competitive mining landscape.
