CDSL appoints Geetha Gangadharan to board; Kamala Kantharaj retires at AGM

In a governance update timed with Central Depository Services (India) Limited’s (CDSL) Twenty-Eighth Annual General Meeting, the board welcomed Geetha Gangadharan as a Non-Independent Director on the Governing Board, a nomination coming from BSE Limited and awaiting SEBI approval. The move signals a deliberate push to bring seasoned regulatory insight to CDSL’s leadership during a period of heightened focus on market integrity and oversight of market infrastructure.

Geetha Gangadharan comes with more than three decades of experience spanning securities regulation, banking supervision, enforcement, litigation, and policy implementation. Her career includes senior roles at the Reserve Bank of India, the Securities and Exchange Board of India, and most recently, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates. At BSE Limited, she has served as Chief Regulatory Officer (Key Management Personnel) since June 5, 2026, lending a deep bench of regulatory know-how to the board. She holds an LLM in Taxation (First Rank) from the University of Calicut, alongside law degrees, and has completed international regulatory programs at Harvard Law School and other institutions.

Separately, Kamala Kantharaj, a Non-Independent Director, retired by rotation at the conclusion of the AGM on July 30, 2026 and did not seek re-appointment. The board placed on record its appreciation for her contributions during her tenure, underscoring the importance of continuity and governance stability as CDSL navigates evolving market dynamics.

These changes reflect CDSL’s ongoing effort to bolster governance with varied leadership perspectives while maintaining a steady, experienced board capable of guiding the company through regulatory and market developments.
