BDL Independent Director Chetan Bansilal Kankariya ceases tenure, effective 22 April 2026

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), the Hyderabad-based defence public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has announced the cessation of tenure of its Independent Director, Shri Chetan Bansilal Kankariya. The company stated that his term as a Part-time Non-Official Independent Director will be read as having ceased with effect from 22 April 2026. The notification was shared with the National Stock Exchange and BSE, underscoring a governance move that touches the board’s independent representation.

Independent directors typically bring an external, non-operational perspective to board deliberations and aim to strengthen governance frameworks. Kankariya’s exit marks a routine realignment of board composition, a responsibility that government-era enterprises like BDL periodically undertake in pursuit of ongoing governance calibration while continuing to pursue the company’s strategic priorities.

BDL’s leadership and board will now consider the appropriate steps to address the vacancy, including any process to identify a replacement, in line with applicable governance norms. As with all board changes at government-underwritten enterprises, such developments are communicated transparently to stakeholders and followed by the necessary procedural updates to safeguard continued oversight and strategic continuity.

BDL remains focused on its mandate in the defence sector, balancing stringent governance with the objective of delivering on long-term strategic initiatives. The company has not disclosed details of interim arrangements or timelines for appointing a new independent director, but is expected to keep the market informed as the process unfolds.
