BDL appoints DRDO veteran Jagannath Nayak as Government Nominee Director on Board

Bharat Dynamics Limited has announced the appointment of Jagannath Nayak as a Government Nominee Director on its board, effective 16 October 2026. The move brings a high-profileDRDO leadership presence to the company’s governance table, underscoring the close link between the defence research ecosystem and strategic industrial partners in India’s public sector defence space.

Nayak, who serves as DS&DG (MSS) at DRDO, comes with a distinguished track record spanning more than 35 years in India’s defence research and development landscape. An alumnus of IISc with a Ph.D. in Electrical Communication Engineering, he is widely recognized for his work in directed energy weapons, inertial navigation systems, fiber optic gyroscopes and high-power laser technologies. His leadership has steered transformative programmes aimed at strengthening indigenous defence capabilities.

BDL officials say the appointment signals a continued emphasis on leveraging advanced technology and domestic innovations to enhance the company’s strategic footprint. As a non-executive Government Nominee Director, Nayak’s experience could inform governance and collaboration efforts across domestic defence projects, while aligning with the broader objective of accelerating indigenisation and technology integration within India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
