SEPC Limited appoints Ashutosh Karnatak as Non-Executive Independent Director

SEPC Limited has appointed Ashutosh Karnatak as an Additional Director in the capacity of Non-Executive Independent Director, effective April 6, 2026, for an initial five-year term, subject to shareholders’ approval. The move follows a recommendation by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and was approved by the board through a circular resolution on April 6, 2026.

Karnatak is a veteran of India’s energy sector with more than four decades in the core infrastructure space. He retired as Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL (India) Ltd., where he played a pivotal role in building the National Gas Grid and advancing the country’s gas-based economy. He brings wide governance and board-level experience, having chaired key committees on risk, sustainability, and governance, and later served as Technical Member (Petroleum & Natural Gas) at the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL), contributing to regulatory and dispute-resolution frameworks.

His academic and professional pedigree is extensive: a Post-Doctorate (DBA) in Organizational Maturity in Project Management and a PhD on the Asian Gas Grid; an MTech in Energy Studies from IIT Delhi; an MBA in Finance; a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering; a Diploma in Arbitration & Law; IPMA Level A Certification as Projects Director (Switzerland); and executive training at Harvard University.

This appointment underscores SEPC’s emphasis on governance excellence as it positions itself for growth in India’s energy and infrastructure landscape, leveraging Karnatak’s tested leadership and regulatory acumen.
