Allied Blenders and Distillers Limited (ABD) has unveiled a leadership move that signals continuity at the helm as it gears up for the next growth phase. The board has appointed Amar Sinha as Managing Director – Designate and Senior Management Personnel, effective April 2, 2026, with an eye toward a seamless transition as current MD and Key Managerial Personnel Alok Gupta nears the end of his tenure. ABD, described as the largest domestic spirits company by volume, is positioning itself for further expansion across its multi-brand portfolio.
Amar Sinha comes to ABD with more than three decades of leadership experience across the alco-beverage and consumer sectors. His career spans chief operating officer responsibilities at Radico Khaitan, managing director roles at Whyte & Mackay India, and executive stints at Herbertsons (UB Group) and other industry players. Recognitions highlighting his leadership include the Rajeev Gandhi Excellence Award (Most Enterprising CEO of the Year, 2015), the Make in India Excellence Award (2016), and Business Leader of the Year at the IndSpirit Awards (2023). His background covers sales, marketing, brand building, and large-scale transformation—traits ABD says it needs to accelerate its next chapter of market leadership.
The company notes that the appointment comes as part of a strategic transition framework, underscoring ABD’s focus on value creation and long-term growth. Communications from the leadership echo confidence that Amar Sinha will build on the momentum already in motion. Non-Executive Chairman Kishore Chhabria welcomed the move, emphasizing the need to leverage Sinha’s deep industry experience to drive ABD’s momentum forward. In parallel, outgoing MD Alok Gupta reflected on the journey, praising the governance foundations and the momentum achieved under his leadership. Amar Sinha himself expressed enthusiasm about joining ABD at this pivotal stage and partnering with the team to steer strategy for the next growth phase.
ABD reiterates its position as a leading name in India’s spirits landscape, with a broad portfolio spanning whisky, brandy, rum, vodka, and gin, and a manufacturing network that includes owned and non-owned units. The leadership transition is framed as a strategic step toward sustaining growth, strengthening brands, and expanding ABD’s footprint in both traditional and emerging markets.
