Tata Steel reshuffles senior leadership with four redesignations and one new VP appointment

Tata Steel Limited has announced a leadership realignment within its senior management, introducing four internal redesignations and one new appointment to a Vice President role, effective April 2, 2026. The moves underscore a sharpened focus on marketing, procurement and supply chain excellence, while also strengthening downstream operations across the business. The changes are being communicated as part of the company’s ongoing effort to align leadership capabilities with its strategic priorities.

Ashish Anupam, who has been Vice President – Long Products, is re-designated as Vice President – Marketing and Sales. A veteran of the steel industry with more than three decades of experience, Anupam has led Tata Steel’s Long Products portfolio with P&L responsibility across multiple locations, including Jamshedpur, Gamharia and Odisha. He has driven notable initiatives—from advancing brand platforms like Tata Tiscon and Aashiyana to orchestrating strategic turns, including the acquisition and turnaround of Usha Martin Ltd’s steel business and the Ludhiana EAF startup.

Peeyush Gupta, currently Vice President – TQM, Group Strategic Procurement and Supply Chain, is re-designated as Vice President – Group Strategic Procurement and Business Excellence, while Prabhat Kumar, Vice President – Marketing and Sales (Flat Products), becomes Vice President – Supply Chain. Gupta’s remit now centers on the group’s strategic procurement and operational excellence, with a track record spanning coal, limestone and ore sourcing, bulk procurement, and end-to-end supply chain leadership across Tata Steel India, Netherlands and the UK. He brings more than 32 years with Tata Steel and has served in senior roles including leading Indian operations in the Steel Marketing & Sales space and heading Tata Steel Thailand.

Prabhat Kumar’s shift from Marketing & Sales (Flat Products) to Supply Chain marks a reconfiguration of end-to-end value chain leadership, drawing on his 30-plus years with Tata Steel. Kumar, a mechanical engineer educated at BIT Sindri and an XLRI postgraduate, has built a career spanning marketing, sales and strategic program leadership, contributing to governance and long-term sustainability through board roles in subsidiary companies.

Ujjal Chakraborti has been appointed as Vice President Operations – Downstream. An electrical engineer by training, Chakraborti’s Tata Steel career began in 1990 and has seen him lead diverse functions—from business analysis and downstream processes to tinplate operations. His progression includes senior leadership roles across Flat Products, Tinplate and related value chains, including a recent executive-in-charge tenure at the Tinplate division, positioning him to steer downstream operations in the broader Tata Steel portfolio.
