In a leadership transition at HDFC Bank, Sudhir Kumar Jha has superannuated from the bank after 22 years of service with the HDFC Group, stepping down from his role as Group Head – Legal & Group General Counsel. The departure marks the end of a long tenure that helped shape the bank’s legal and compliance framework and guide prudent risk management across the organization.
Jigar Shah, designated as General Counsel – Designate earlier in June 2026, will assume the position of General Counsel of the Bank in place of Mr. Jha, effective October 1, 2026. The transition underscores the bank’s intent to maintain continuity in its core legal and governance functions while reinforcing its strategic approach to legal risk and regulatory compliance.
The bank noted thanks for Mr. Jha’s dedicated service over two decades, highlighting his pivotal role in strengthening the Bank’s legal and compliance framework. As the new General Counsel-in-waiting steps into the role, the leadership transition is framed as a measured evolution focused on sustaining effective risk management and governance as HDFC Bank continues to navigate a dynamic regulatory and market landscape.
