Karnataka Bank Limited has announced the appointment of Dr. M Aruna Shyam as an Additional Director in the category of Non-Executive, Independent Director, for a four-year term with effect from July 18, 2026. The move, disclosed to the stock exchanges, signals a governance refinement as the board expands its independent oversight.
Dr. M Aruna Shyam brings a distinguished legal background to the bank’s board. He is a qualified post-graduate in Business Law and holds a doctorate in Law focused on Constitution and Criminal Law. Since 2004, Shyam has been active in legal practice, appearing before Civil Courts, Tribunals, the National Company Law Tribunal, the High Court of Karnataka, and the Supreme Court of India. His experience spans Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Co-operative, Corporate, Banking, Labour, Insurance, and Service Laws. He has also served as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Karnataka (2020–2023) and was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Karnataka High Court in 2021, underscoring a track record in high-stakes public-law matters.
The appointment is subject to shareholders’ approval and is not a case of debarment from holding office. The disclosure also notes that Shyam is not related to any of the bank’s directors. As the board welcomes this independent voice, the bank underscores its ongoing emphasis on robust governance and governance-related expertise to navigate an evolving financial landscape.
