NTPC Limited is reshaping its board with the appointment of Som Nath Sachdeva as an Independent Director, effective July 18, 2026. The move comes after the Board approved the addition of an Independent Director to strengthen governance and bring a robust academic and engineering perspective to the company’s leadership cadre.
Prof. (Dr.) Som Nath Sachdeva currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, a NAAC A++ accredited state university. With over 39 years of experience in academia, research, and consultancy, his profile spans civil engineering with a specialization in transportation engineering. He has held leadership roles across multiple government universities in Haryana, taught at the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, and built a substantial record of research with more than 100 published papers, three books, and mentorship of numerous postgraduate and doctoral scholars. His work has earned national recognition, including the Outstanding Vice Chancellor of India (2025) and a Platinum Award from the Haryana government for excellence in implementing NEP 2020.
According to the company, Sachdeva is not related to any other NTPC director, is not debarred from holding office by SEBI or any other authority, and does not hold NTPC shares. He has been appointed as an Additional Director (Independent Director) for a term of three years from the date of notification of his appointment, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The appointment aligns with NTPC’s ongoing governance enhancements as it continues to navigate an evolving energy landscape and seek governance practices that benefit from cross-sector expertise.
