Bandhan Bank appoints Debashish Mukherjee as Independent Director

Bandhan Bank Limited is expanding its governance spine with the appointment of Debashish Mukherjee as an Independent Director on the bank’s board. The development underscores the lender’s commitment to strengthening oversight and leveraging seasoned governance experience as it steers through its next phase of growth.

The bank confirms that Mr. Mukherjee received the requisite approval from the Ministry of Finance on March 25, 2026. Under the decision, he is appointed as an Additional Director (Independent) on the Board, effective the same date, and as an Independent Director for a term of three consecutive years. The appointment is not liable to retirement by rotation, subject to shareholder approval within three months.

Mr. Mukherjee enters the Bandhan Bank board after coming from Canara Bank, where his retirement triggered the cooling-off period that facilitated this move. He will join a governance roster that already includes non-executive and independent voices, aligning Bandhan Bank’s leadership with a framework that prioritizes risk oversight, strategic accountability, and long-term stakeholder value.
