Central Bank of India promotes nine executives to Chief General Manager and General Manager roles

In a signal of renewed leadership focus, Central Bank of India on Monday disclosed a broad internal promotion exercise, elevating nine senior executives to Chief General Manager and General Manager positions with effect from April 1, 2026. The moves underscore the bank’s emphasis on strengthening its executive bench from within as it navigates a challenging macro environment while continuing to pursue its strategic priorities.

Three executives are slated to assume Chief General Manager roles. Sohail Ahmad will step up as Chief General Manager, having served as General Manager for Emerging Business and Cent Pragati Department. Kushal Pal is also appointed as Chief General Manager, currently General Manager for Human Capital Management and Board Secretariat. Kavita Thakur takes on the same top-tier title after serving as Chief Compliance Officer, reflecting an expanded mandate across risk, compliance and governance domains.

The remaining six moves are to General Manager, reinforcing a broad-based expansion of the bank’s senior leadership. Pramod Mishra is promoted from Deputy General Manager, Bhopal Zone; Birendra Mehta rises from Deputy General Manager, Recovery Department; Himanshu Gupta moves up from Deputy General Manager, MSME Department; Raj Kokil Singh advances from Deputy General Manager, Kolkata Zonal Office; Suresh Singh from Deputy General Manager and Regional Head, North Mumbai Regional Office; and Anil Kumar from Deputy General Manager and Zonal Head, Guwahati. Each new appointee brings decades of banking experience and a track record of leadership across operations, risk, and growth engines.

Taken together, the announcements paint a picture of a bank doubling down on internal talent development to sustain momentum in areas such as Emerging Business, Human Capital, MSME lending, and asset recovery. The emphasis on continuity and institutional memory comes at a time when banks are recalibrating their portfolios and customer strategies, signaling Central Bank of India’s intent to steward a confident, long-term growth trajectory from within.
