Universal Cables appoints Sutirtha Bhattacharya as Independent Director as Kishore Mehrotra completes tenure

Universal Cables Limited disclosed, after its board meeting on 4 November 2026, that Kishore Kumar Mehrotra’s five-year term as a Non-Executive Independent Director will come to a close at the end of business on 10 November 2026. The board also approved the appointment of Sutirtha Bhattacharya as an Additional Director in the category of Non-Executive Independent Director, with effect from 4 November 2026 for a first term of five consecutive years ending on 3 November 2031, subject to shareholder approval.

Kishore Kumar Mehrotra, who joined the board in 2021, completes his tenure as an independent director under the Companies Act and related SEBI Regulations, marking a natural transition for the board’s independent oversight. Sutirtha Bhattacharya, a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the Telangana cadre, brings a public-sector governance perspective to Universal Cables, with leadership roles in energy and infrastructure including stints as Chairman/Managing Director of Coal India Limited and Singareni Collieries, and governance experience on the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission and on boards such as PTC India and GMR Hyderabad Airport. He is currently serving as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Cheviot Company Limited.

The company notes that Bhattacharya’s appointment is as an Additional Director, not liable to retire by rotation, and is designed to bolster independent governance as the company pursues its capacity expansion and export-led growth. This leadership transition comes as Universal Cables positions itself for ongoing expansion in its core electrical and power-solution businesses and looks to leverage Bhattacharya’s public-sector governance experience to guide strategic oversight.

Industry observers will be watching how the refreshed board composition supports Universal Cables’ growth trajectory, including its continued capacity ramp-up and expansion into international markets amid a vibrant demand cycle for quality power solutions.
