UltraTech Cement Announces Leadership Reconfiguration: MD to Move to Non-Executive Vice Chairman; Non-Executive Vice Chairman to Step Down

UltraTech Cement has signaled a notable leadership reconfiguration that blends continuity with governance-led reform. The company’s board announced that K. K. Maheshwari will relinquish his position as Non-Executive Vice Chairman, effective 1 January 2027, citing his current engagements and other personal commitments. In a parallel shift, Kailash Chandra Jhanwar, who has served as Managing Director since 2020, will be redesignated as Non-Executive Vice Chairman from 1 January 2027, following the completion of his MD term on 31 December 2026. The moves come after a recommendation from the Nomination, Remuneration and Compensation Committee and underline UltraTech’s intent to balance steady governance with seasoned leadership at the helm.

Mr. Maheshwari’s departure from the Non-Executive Vice Chairman role marks a significant turning point for UltraTech’s boardroom dynamics. While stepping back from this specific executive chair, the magnitude of his influence on the company’s strategic direction has been unmistakable, reflecting a broader industry trend toward refreshed governance without abrupt disruption to ongoing initiatives.

Kailash Chandra Jhanwar, widely recognized for his deep experience across finance, operations and corporate strategy, will transition to the role of Non-Executive Vice Chairman after more than a decade steering UltraTech as MD. A Chartered Accountant by training, Jhanwar joined the Aditya Birla Group in 1981 and has continued to shape the cement giant’s growth through large-scale project execution and post-merger integration capabilities. The reshuffle is portrayed as a move to ensure leadership continuity and leverage Jhanwar’s extensive track record as the company navigates an evolving market landscape.

Together, the moves signal UltraTech’s deliberate approach to governance and leadership depth, aiming to preserve momentum while aligning strategic oversight with a broader, non-operational board role. Stakeholders can expect a steady hand at the top as UltraTech remains focused on sustaining its growth trajectory and refining its execution engine for the years ahead.
