Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has announced the appointment of Akhilesh Pathak as Director (Projects) on its Board, effective September 30, 2026. The appointment follows a Ministry of Power order dated September 30, 2026, and the Board’s approval at its meeting on the same day. The tenure is defined by the MoP order to run from the date of assumption of charge until the date of his superannuation, i.e., May 31, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Pathak assumed charge on September 30, 2026, with the Board confirming him as Additional Director (Director, Projects). In parallel, the outgoing Director (Projects) relinquished the additional charge after Pathak took over.
A veteran of POWERGRID with more than three decades in the power transmission arena, Pathak brings deep expertise across transmission system planning, project execution, management, and strategic infrastructure development. An early-career Executive Trainee in POWERGRID’s first batch (1993), he has led multiple leadership initiatives across the organization, with a noted track record in the development, execution, monitoring, and commissioning of EHV transmission lines and substations. He notably steered the Arun-3 SAPDC Transmission Project in Nepal, navigating cross-border, regulatory, and geographic challenges, and he has contributed to POWERGRID’s business development through expanded consultancy services and revenue initiatives.
Pathak’s appointment signals a continuation of POWERGRID’s emphasis on large-scale project delivery and international collaboration, underpinned by his hands-on experience in project management, asset creation, and stakeholder coordination. His leadership is expected to align closely with the company’s ongoing expansion in transmission infrastructure, while drawing on a strong internal understanding of POWERGRID’s operating model. Notably, Pathak is not related to other directors or key managerial personnel, and his appointment aligns with the organisation’s internal leadership development as it navigates a busy project pipeline.
