Smartworks Bolsters Board with Two Independent Directors, Tapping a Judicial Veteran and an Ex-SEBI Regulator

Smartworks Coworking Spaces Limited has announced governance moves at its 11th Annual General Meeting, held on September 22, 2026, highlighting the appointment of two independent directors to strengthen its board oversight. The company confirms that the changes involve Dilip Deshmukh and Rajeev Krishnamuralilal Agarwal, both aligned with the firm’s focus on robust governance as it advances its growth trajectory.

Dilip Deshmukh is described as a judicial veteran and corporate law expert with more than four decades in the legal and judicial arena. He is a retired justice who previously chaired the Company Law Board, now known as the National Company Law Tribunal, and has held senior judicial roles across the state and national levels. Deshmukh joins Smartworks as a Non-Executive Independent Director for a five-year term commencing September 22, 2026, bringing deep experience in corporate adjudication and governance.

Rajeev Krishnamuralilal Agarwal has moved from an Additional Non-Executive Independent Director to a full Non-Executive Independent Director, for a five-year term effective June 25, 2026. An IIT Roorkee engineer by training, Agarwal is a veteran Indian Revenue Service officer with more than three decades of experience in taxation, enforcement, financial regulation, and capital markets, including leadership roles at SEBI and the Forward Markets Commission. The company notes that both directors have not been debarred by SEBI or any other authority.

The two appointments underscore Smartworks’ emphasis on independent oversight and governance as it navigates its growth and strategic initiatives. Details of the appointments are also available on the company’s investor portal.
