REC Limited disclosed that two part-time Independent Directors — Anil Kumar Gupta and Kanchiappan Ghayatbri Devi — appointed by the Ministry of Power on June 22, 2026 for a three-month term, have completed their tenure. Their tenure ended on September 21, 2026, and they ceased to be Directors from September 22, 2026, in line with the ministry’s order.
The appointments were on a non-official, independent basis to provide governance continuity during a transitional period. As such, their exit marks a routine rebalancing of the board’s independent representation, a common feature in governance cycles for state-backed enterprises navigating policy shifts and strategic refreshes.
With the two independent seats now vacated, REC will likely pursue replacements to preserve board independence and governance standards as it advances its mandate in India’s energy infrastructure landscape. The company will continue to align its leadership composition with statutory requirements and strategic priorities.
As a Maharatna government enterprise focused on power infrastructure and energy solutions, REC’s leadership transitions underscore the ongoing emphasis on robust governance and continuity at the top tier. The board’s ability to maintain independent oversight remains central to steering the company through the evolving energy agenda.
