ONGC appoints Bhaskar Chowdary Nettem as Director (Production) to drive upstream and gas-network ambitions

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited has named Bhaskar Chowdary Nettem as Director (Production), effective September 21, 2026. The appointment, approved by the ONGC board, places Nettem in a key executive role on the company’s board, with the term running until his superannuation on 30 September 2029 or until further orders. The move signals ONGC’s continued emphasis on strengthening production and asset performance across its upstream portfolio, including mature offshore and onshore assets, while aligning with broader strategic ambitions in gas pipeline development and energy security.

Nettem is described as a seasoned energy sector leader with more than three decades of experience across ONGC’s offshore and onshore operations, strategic business development, project execution, international upstream exposure, and joint venture leadership. A mechanical engineer by qualification, he began his career in 1991 at Mumbai High Offshore Oilfield, later augmenting his technical foundation with a master’s degree in international business in 2006. His early leadership assignments included feasibility studies for greenfield refinery projects and contributions to downstream expansion, followed by pivotal roles in the Mangala oilfields joint venture and the Barmer–Bhogat heated crude oil pipeline project.

His biography also highlights international exposure through ONGC Videsh Limited, where he gained experience in deepwater operations and cross-functional leadership across multidisciplinary interfaces. At the Assam Asset (Nazira), Nettem led one of ONGC’s most operationally challenging onshore assets, balancing production performance with environmental stewardship and workforce alignment. He later oversaw Mumbai High Asset, steering initiatives to strengthen production performance, asset integrity, and project execution amid aging reservoirs and demanding production expectations. Nettem currently serves as Chairman of IGGL, a joint venture of five PSUs developing the gas pipeline network in North East, underscoring his strategic mandate to advance India’s gas grid expansion in line with policy objectives.

Nettem’s career path, described as a blend of operational excellence, strategic foresight, and people-centric leadership, positions him to shoulder senior executive and board-level responsibilities at ONGC. His comprehensive experience across operations, project delivery, and cross-border ventures aligns with ONGC’s focus on sustaining production, improving asset integrity, and expanding gas infrastructure as part of India’s broader energy transition.
