Bank of India has appointed Raj Kumar Sharma as a Part-Time Non-Official Director, with effect from August 12, 2026. The appointment, announced in alignment with Regulation 30 read with Schedule II of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, is made under the Central Government’s authority and is valid for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The move signals BoI’s ongoing focus on strengthening its governance framework with experienced governance professionals on its board.
Sharma’s professional dossier reads like a blueprint for corporate governance proficiency. He holds a law degree and has completed a B.Com (Management) from Guwahati Commerce College. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (FCS) and has been a Practising Company Secretary since 1997, bringing decades of expertise in Company Law and related matters. Notably, he has chaired the North-East Chapter of ICSI for two terms (2011-2012) and remains a member of its Management Committee, underscoring his long-standing leadership within the governance community. He has also served as Secretary of the Tax Bar Association, Assam, in 2006.
Beyond his professional credentials, Sharma has been closely involved with industry-oriented groups such as Marwari Yuva Manch, where he has held the roles of National Executive Member for two terms and currently serves as a State Executive Member. He is also a regular speaker on Income Tax and Company Law across professional platforms. His appointment situates BoI to benefit from a governance veteran whose extensive background in compliance, corporate law and professional leadership could help navigate the bank through a complex regulatory and competitive environment while reinforcing boardroom oversight and strategic input.
The nomination underscores Bank of India’s emphasis on robust governance as it pursues growth and organizational resilience. Sharma’s blend of legal acumen, regulatory insight and practical governance experience positions him to contribute meaningfully to board deliberations and strategic direction.
