IREDA appoints Director (Finance) as interim Chairman & Managing Director after retirement of Pradip Kumar Das

IREDA is steering through a leadership transition as it bids farewell to a long-serving chief. Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited said that Pradip Kumar Das has ceased to be Chairman & Managing Director with effect from July 1, 2026, following his superannuation on June 30, 2026. The move marks the end of an era for the Navratna CPSE at a moment when India’s renewable energy push is gaining momentum on the policy and project fronts.

In the interim, Dr Bijay Kumar Mohanty, who has been serving as Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer at IREDA, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Chairman & Managing Director for three months. The arrangement, issued by MNRE on June 30, 2026, will last until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders, whichever occurs first. Mohanty assumed the additional duty on July 1, 2026, positioning the agency for a seamless handover while a longer-term leadership decision is pursued.

Mohanty brings a finance-forward profile to the helm, built over more than 27 years in the Indian power sector. His career spans leadership across project appraisal, treasury, and financial management, with senior roles at entities including REC Limited and RECPDCL, and experience across several states’ power initiatives. As Director (Finance) and CFO, he has been a key architect of IREDA’s financial planning and execution, and he also serves on boards related to IREDA’s subsidiary and financing ventures. The interim arrangement underscores a continuity-focused approach as IREDA advances its mandate in financing and delivering renewable energy projects.

As the agency navigates this short-term leadership phase, market watchers will be watching closely for how the transition shapes IREDA’s strategic priorities, funding cycles, and project financing outlook. The three-month window for appointing a regular incumbent keeps the focus firm on stable governance, while allowing time to align leadership with the evolving needs of India’s renewable energy mission.
